Earlier this month, a Texas man was sentenced to 60 years for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Eligibility for parole would occur after he serves 30 of the 60 years sentenced. The convicted man, J. J. G., was convicted by a Collin County jury and given a $10,000 fine for savagely beating a prostitute in his home in 2012. The woman was found on the curb outside his home with various injuries, including knife wounds and contusions after being kicked and beaten with several household objects along with the defendant's fists for several hours. The beaten woman escaped after J. J. G. fell asleep.
J. J. G.'s attorney requested that he be sentenced to only 15 years due to the fact that the victim was not shot nor did she die. The prosecutors in the case asserted that he should receive a harsher punishment due to the fact that he was on probation and had previous convictions at the time of the beating offense. His earlier criminal record consisted of offenses involving theft, failing to stop when involved in an accident, driving on a suspended license, assault, and a felony of driving while under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs on a suspended license. All of the previous convictions resulted in deferred adjudication or probation.
