57-year-old B.B., a former sergeant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, recently pled not guilty to several charges against him including felony counts of grand theft and embezzlement. B.B. had been the supervisor of the narcotics task force and was allegedly busted during a sting operation conducted by the Sheriff's Department Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau last summer. He is accused of stealing money that had been seized after a narcotics bust. A guard watching surveillance camera monitors says he saw the sergeant put cash into his trunk. He is also accused of stealing about $4,000 in the narcotics bust set up by internal affairs when doing an "integrity check" operation. He resigned from service when the allegations arose. The investigation went on for nearly a year before his recent arrest. He was charged with felony grand theft of personal property, petty theft, felony embezzlement by a public or private officer and enhancements for allegations that he was armed with a handgun during the commission of an offense. He pled not guilty to the charges and posted $70,000 bail. His trial begins in mid July. If convicted the 28-year sheriff's department veteran could face over four years in prison as well as substantial fines.
