J.M.'s arrest was very eventful according to the Mesa police report on the incident. Officers say they tried to conduct a traffic stop after seeing an individual driving a convertible speeding in a residential area and through the parking lot of an apartment complex. The officers turned on their cruiser's siren and emergency lights but the driver would not pull over. Instead, the driver allegedly attempted to elude police and began driving at higher rates of speed and more erratically. Police pursued the convertible and reported that it went through some bushes and then finally came to a stop after running into a stop sign. Officers said an open can of beer was thrown from the vehicle and then the driver, J.M., got out and started running from the crash scene. Officers pursed the 31-year-old man on foot but the man continued to disobey commands to halt. They caught up to the suspect and said they had to use a stun gun to try to subdue him since he was struggling to get away. The stun gun had no effect, however, so multiple officers had to physically restrain him in order to take him into custody. He was placed in jail on charges of reckless driving, endangerment, aggravated DUI, unlawful flight, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated assault and driving on a revoked license. Don't hesitate to consult with a criminal defense lawyer skilled in DUI law immediately if you have been arrested for drunk driving or DUI of drugs.
