Vigilante Justice Backfires On Hot-Headed Local
In this surprising story from Tempe, Arizona, a local man was charged with multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon and impersonation of a law enforcement officer. The offending individual, Jameson White, aged 20, was working late one Tuesday night when a woman entered his business wearing a bloody t-shirt. White ascertained that she had been assaulted outside, and decided to take action himself. He first called police to inform them of the incident, and then chose to try and apprehend the man he believed to be responsible.
White is reported to have chased the unidentified man to an apartment building where he is presumed to live. White then broke into the building, following the man to his apartment and trespassing upon private property. Witnesses report that he proceeded to identify himself falsely as a police officer and pointed his gun at the occupants, one of whom was only 4 years old. When police arrived on the scene, White was taken into custody.
Once the dust had settled, White found himself charged with a total of one count of trespassing, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of assault with a deadly weapon upon a person younger than 15, and one count of impersonating a police officer. Though he no doubt intended do the right thing, Arizona law frowns upon private citizens taking the law into their own hands. The woman who he had tried to help was eventually located by police officers, but she proved to be uncooperative and refused to speak with them.
