A young couple, motivated by financial gains, has admitted to strangling and stabbing an elderly couple to death in their home as they slept, and the male was closely related to the victims, as reported by by ABC News.
A relative of the killers described the pair as "young, stupid and selfish."
The male, B.J., 18, was the grandson of the man and woman killed, C.S. and S.S., both 70. He and his girlfriend C.R., 18, were allegedly after B.J.'s inheritance and the grandparent's house in Sterling, Colorado.
B.J. and C.R. left S.S's burned remains in two different states. When they were unable to move C.S. due to his weight, they called 911 to report finding his body.
After their arrest they explained how they hatched a plan, starting back in early May, to smother C.S. and S.S. with pillows. On the night of the killing, however, C.S. awoke and struggled against the attack.
S.S.'s half sister, N.C., told reporters, "They're young stupid and selfish" and that B.J. had only recently graduated from high school and had been living with C.S. and S.S.
Victims C.S. and S.S. were allegedly killed on May 20. C.S.'s body was found 9 days later and S.S.'s remains were found in both Sterling and in Lorenzo, Nebraska.
C.R. told investigators, "Together we went and we did it together. We had agreed to do it together, obviously. ... Like one get one and one get the other."
B.J. stood to inherit his grandparent's home, valuated at about $47,000, and gain his monetary inheritance early.
According to B.J. he was unable to smother his grandfather and believes that the man instead died of a heart attack. As C.R. was strangling S.S. the victim allegedly offered to give them the combination of the safe. C.R. stopped momentarily, however, while S.S. was opening the safe, B.J. stabbed her.
Over a period of some days B.J. and C.R. cleaned the home and removed any evidence they thought could tie them to the murders. They planned to take the bodies for burial in Nebraska, but C.S. was too heavy to move. They took S.S. to a fire pit in Sterling and burned her body, then came back later to the pit to take some of her remains to Nebraska.
Rachel Lanzen it the attorney representing B.J. There has been no announcement of who C.R. will have representing her.
B.J.'s mother, J.J., declined to speak to reporters and only asked for privacy at this time. Lanzen did not return calls from reporters seeking comment. Calls to C.R. by the press were also left unanswered.
B.J. and C.R. are facing charges of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, forgery and theft, according to a judge and both are being held without bond.
N.C. also told reporters, "The one thing I knew was my sister would put up a fight."
