Sheriff: 21 Year-Old Admitted Killing 18 year-old Girlfriend, Attorney: Not the Facts

A young man allegedly told police that he had reached a breaking point, and that alcohol was not a factor, when he beat his girlfriend to death. However the man's attorney has denied all previously made statements as the case prepares for trial, as reported by HLN Television and other media outlets.

C.W., 21, a New York college student, is accused of murdering his girlfriend, A.K., 18, also a student, in her college dorm room on September 29.

A sheriff's report states that C.W. said he had "just snapped" when he went from beating A.K. with his fists, and then a curling iron, until she was dead.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office report detailed that C.W. was visiting A.K. at The College at Brockport prior to her death.

The cause of death, as determined by the medical examiner, was blunt force trauma.

After being arrested, and placed under suicide watch, C.W. requested that a sheriff's deputy allow him to "clear his mind" and speak about what had happened to A.K.

Allegedly C.W. told an officer "I killed my girlfriend." C.W. then explained how the evening had progressed. At first the two went to a friend's home for a drink. While in the friend's home C.W. said that A.K. "was being rude to him the entire time."

The two decided to return to A.K.'s dorm, however, on the drive there C.W. was pulled over and given an open container ticket. The incident "made him angry."

Once the two arrived in the dorm, they became argumentative over "stupid stuff." The verbal argument escalated when A.K. allegedly "started pushing me and yelling at me" and C.W. "pushed her back against the wall to get her to stop. She wouldn't stop pushing me, so I started punching her and just snapped."

According to the police, C.W. "then told me he was trying to kill her."

Authorities wrote that C.W. said, "Her breathing sounded bad, like there was blood or something blocking her breathing. I didn't want the girl I loved to suffer, so I started beating her with a curling iron until the noise stopped. I wasn't even drunk, I just snapped."

A.K.'s mother, unnerved by not being able to reach her daughter on her cell phone the night of her death, contacted the school and requested that they do a welfare check on her. The school's police discovered A.K. in her dorm room, deceased, at approximately 2:45 a.m. on September 29.

S.W., C.W.'s father, had received a call from his son in which he admitted to doing something "really bad." S.W. told reporters, "When I asked him what he did, he told me and I talked to him about turning himself in. My concern was for his safety. I was able to talk to him and I called 911. My son was cooperative and turned himself in."

C.W. was arrested at a rest stop near Syracuse at approximately 4 a.m.

John Leonard, C.W.'s attorney, in arguing the publicized sheriff's report said, "These are not facts—these are statements allegedly made by our client to some officer. We don't know what stress he was under, how long he had been up, the circumstances under which they were made—if they were even made—or how accurate they are. These are not facts. Facts come out on the witness stand."

C.W. has since pleaded not-guilty to second-degree murder and is being held without bail in the Monroe County Jail.
