New DWI & Traffic Court Slated to Open in North Carolina

A new traffic court is being established to serve the 13th Judicial District in North Carolina, designed to handle "high-impact" cases, such as those involving DWI, speeding, or any other traffic offense that could result in serious injury or death.

The goal of the court is to reduce the amount of DWI-related deaths to zero, and could pave the way for a new method for prosecuting high-impact traffic cases.

The court will be headed by Sarah Garner, an assistant district attorney in Columbus County.  Garner will be the lead prosecutor for the court, and will be responsible for prosecuting every case.  The cases will be heard by either an emergency judge or a retired judge.

The court will serve Brunswick, Bladen, and Columbus Counties, and will meet once a week in Brunswick County and bi-weekly in Bladen and Columbus Counties.
