5 Teens in Missouri Arrested for Burglary

In Neosho, Missouri, five teenagers were arrested this week by law enforcement. The teens allegedly stole over $30,000 in cash and valuable property from a home in Newton County before being arrested by police.
On Tuesday of this week, the Newton County Sheriff's Department was contacted by a resident. Sheriff Ken Copeland said that the man called to report a
burglary. He said that the man, "reported a small safe and contents -- $30,000 in cash -- was stolen in the burglary."
Sheriff Copeland also said that, "we had a couple of our investigators working on this. We got a call yesterday that there are some students at Neosho High School with some large amounts of cash they were flaunting."
After receiving the reports, the police department went to the school. There, they arrested five students. Three were 17 year old boys and two were 16 year olds, male and female.
One of the main suspects, 17 year old Derek C. Jones, was charged with theft of $25,000 or more and second-degree burglary, both of which are felony offenses. His bond was set at $10,000. 17 year olds Austin D. Nally and Nathan E. Ellis are facing charges for receipt of stolen property, which is a felony. Their bond was set at $5,000.
The students were allegedly flaunting their money to their friends at school. One student had $2,600 on his body and another had $10,000. The student with $10,000 carried some of the cash and had some of it stored in his locker.
Copeland said that his department recovered, "a total of $22,609 yesterday as well as some high ticket items such as laptop computers and some other items."
