Los Angeles District Attorney Cracks Down on Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

It just became harder for people in Los Angeles County to get medical marijuana.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley recently stated that all medical marijuana dispensaries in his jurisdiction, which includes approximately 800 locations throughout Los Angeles County, are illegal and will be prosecuted, according to a report on KTLA.com.

Although Californians voted in favor of legislation that legalizes the use of medicinal marijuana for patients with a valid prescription from a licensed doctor, Cooley, along with newly elected City Attorney Carmen Trutanich, said that a recent state Supreme Court ruling makes all dispensaries illegal because they sell over-the-counter instead of through a highly regulated pharmacy.

Organica, a medical marijuana dispensary in Culver City, is already facing heat from Cooley.

Supporters of medicinal marijuana feel the actions Cooley and Trutanich are taking will force the medical marijuana community to move underground, which they believe will result in more crime.
