Woman Faces Grand Theft Charges in Craigslist Scam

A woman in South Florida has been arrested for a third time in connection with a scheme used to scam people out of thousands of dollars.

Nancy Alvarez, 21, is being charged with 5 counts of grand theft for selling fake tickets to Disney World on Craigslist.

According to Florida Department of Agriculture Agent Tara Feiner, the victims of Alvarez's scam lost a total of $7,640. All of the victims had no prior connection or relationship with Alvarez, but rather just found her advertisement on Craigslist.

One of those victims is Jodie Wertel of New York.  Wertel lost $3,500 after she bought "tickets" from Alvarez for a Disney vacation she was planning for her 8-year-old daughter.

Alvarez was first arrested for this crime last July and then again in October.

Grand theft is felony offense punishable by imprisonment and thousands of dollars in fines.  Because Alvarez is faced with 5 felony counts, her penalties could be enhanced.
