In Muscatine, Iowa, Carlos Hernandez Molina was recently charged with felony identity theft after he took the identity of another man.
This past Tuesday, police arrested Molina after he used the name and social security number of another man by the name of Anthony Robert Nunez. Documents filed at the Muscatine County Courthouse reveal that Molina faked his ID to obtain a credit card, an Illinois ID card, property and also employment.
When police arrested Molina, they asked him to provide his name and date of birth. Instead of complying, he refused and became menacing. Aside from his identity theft charges, he was also charged with harassment of a police officer and forgery. Both the identity theft and forgery charges are considered Class D felonies. If Molina is convicted, he could have to spend up to five years in prison and pay a $7,500 fine.
At this time, Molina is being held in Muscatine County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond. His initial court appearance is scheduled for the morning of August 3, 2009.
