Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of 2,700 Pirated DVDs

A routine traffic stop for speeding in North Carolina resulted in the discovery of more than 2,700 pirated DVDs.

According to Maj. Randy Jones of the Alamance County Sheriff's Department, a car traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph zone was pulled over for speeding. During the stop, the deputy noticed an usually large number of DVDs in the car.  After investigating the situation further, the deputy was able to determine that the DVDs belonged to the driver, Fredi Santana Ubaldo.

Ubaldo was later charged with possession of counterfeit audio recordings and for delaying a government official for giving a fake name.

Ubaldo, an illegal immigrant, is being processed under the 287g immigration program, which allows law enforcement officials to detain illegal immigrants and hold them in their jurisdiction for deportation proceedings after their case has been adjudicated.

Since the possession of counterfeit goods is a federal offense, the case has been passed to the federal and state authorities.

Ubaldo currently remains in police custody on $5,000 bail.
