OC Teen Convicted of Murder in Fatal DUI Accident Case

An Orange County teenager has been convicted of second degree murder for killing a 16-year-old girl while driving drunk and without a license.

Milad Moulayi, 18, was convicted of one felony count of second degree murder and one misdemeanor count of driving without a license.  He now faces up to life in prison.

According to an accident reconstruction expert, Moulayi was driving over 100 mph when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center median, knocked over two road signs, and slammed into a concrete light pole.

The victim, MacKenzie Frazee, died from massive blunt force trauma.  Moulayi was taken to the hospital with minor cuts and bruises.

Moulayi is the first minor in Orange County to be tried as an adult for a DUI murder.  He was 17 at the time he was indicted by a grand jury.

Deputy District Attorney Susan Price argued that Moulayi should be convicted of second-degree murder instead of vehicular manslaughter because he knew of the dangers associated with drunk driving but chose to ignore them. She said she hopes the verdict sends a powerful message to young people that "you don't get a free murder just because you are young...if you choose to engage in drinking and driving, you face serious consequences."

Moulayi's blood alcohol concentration was .11 percent.  California law states that drivers under the age of 21 are prohibited from driving with any detectable amount of alcohol in their system.
