A Connecticut doctor and his wife were charged with three criminal counts on Wednesday after authorities discovered they wrote an estimated 72 fraudulent prescriptions. Doctor Max Goldstein of Hartford areas hospitals has been charged with illegal distribution of a narcotic substance, second-degree forgery, and conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery. The doctor was arrested after an investigation by the Hartford division of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Statewide Narcotics Task Force.
As a result of the charges, Goldstein has been put on probation for the remainder of his residency, and is restricted from having access to controlled substances. He must also take ethics classes in prescribing, and is required to submit to random urine drug tests. He is also not allowed to write prescriptions for himself or his family members, and must receive therapy.
Goldstein's wife, Lisa Kromol, was arrested and charged with second-degree forgery and conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery.
