Burglary defense
Van Riper & Nies relies on personal attention, open communications, hard work and trust when working for our clients.
Our trial lawyers, Christian Van Riper, a former prosecutor and DCF investigator, and Timothy Nies, a veteran and former insurance company trial attorney, are experienced litigators. Our firm strives to provide professional, prompt efficient and economical legal services to each every client, whether in criminal defense, personal injury, maritime or civil litigation matters.
If you've been arrested for burglary, you may face jail time. Burglary is a third degree felony, which is punishable by up to a $5,000 fine, five years in prison and/or probation.
In Florida, a burglary is committed when one enters a dwelling (home, etc.), structure or conveyance (such as an automobile) with the intent to commit a crime. These type offenses range from entry of a person's house or apartment to rob it, looking through the back seat of a parked automobile for loose change, breaking into a motor vehicle to steal GPSs, and others. Committing a burglary while carrying a gun is a first degree felony, and can result in an even longer prison sentence.
Oftentimes, an experienced and proactive criminal lawyer, by evaluating the evidence and interviewing witnesses, will be able to convince the state attorney to reduce the charge to a trespass. Our lawyers are experienced in trying burglary crimes in Florida and are dedicated to defending you in court.
