Although shoplifting is a minor type of theft crime compared to many others, it still is against the law and can land you in jail. If you are convicted of shoplifting, you will have this on your legal record and it can affect your ability to get jobs in the future. People want to hire employees they feel they can trust and with a shoplifting conviction, they may continue looking for someone with a clean record and your opportunity may be lost.
A Few Facts
In Las Vegas, shoplifting can be defined as intentionally stealing, taking or carrying away property from a store; this is also known as larceny. The penalties for shoplifting will vary depending upon the value of the property that was stolen. If the dollar value of the goods stolen is less than $250, a person may face misdemeanor charges and if the value is $ 250 or more, then they one can be charged with a felony. If this is your first offense you may be able to et the charges lessened or possibly even dismissed and may have to pay a fine, do community service or attend petty larceny school.
