Police May Have Been In Attendance At Underage Party
A teenage youth was sentenced in July for driving while intoxicated and slaying a woman in an accident in Las Vegas. According to the initial statements released by the authorities at the time of the incident, the boy was heavily intoxicated when he got behind the wheel that night. He allegedly told officers after the crash that he had drunk four shots of Jack Daniels whiskey at a party earlier that evening before driving home. The teen was sentenced to six to sixteen years in prison for his actions that night.
During the course of the investigation into the affair, it came to light that the party the defendant attended may have had several police officers in attendance. An unknown number of teenagers were at the party, many of whom, like the defendant, were allegedly engaged in underage drinking. The presence of several members of the Clark County School District Police Department adds a devastating new wrinkle to the case.
Vegas Parents Seek Further Investigation Into Partying Police
As they told reporters during the trial, the parents of the victim say their life will never be the same. "You go through that first night all over again -- it never stops," the mother recounts. "The doorbell ringing, the police being there, the coroner being there; it's a never-ending nightmare."
They became even more incensed after a letter from an anonymous tipster was sent to their attorney claiming that local police officers had been at the party and may have been responsible for providing alcohol to the underage teens. Flyers advertising the party were posted inside the police department openly announcing the underage drinking, the tipster alleges. If the police are found guilty of a cover-up of the affair, as the letter suggests, they could be facing far more serious punishment than the defendant.
