An individual is committing fraud if he or she creates, uses or is in possession of false identification. Stealing or using another's driver's license, creating a counterfeit license or ID card or applying for a credit card using a false name is a criminal offense and the penalties can be harsh. Obtaining false identification documents is not difficult today but is nonetheless against Nevada law.
With the large amount of casinos and clubs in Las Vegas, security personnel, bartenders and bouncers have gotten wise to the amount of people who attempt to use false identification and they are generally able to spot them easily. Bouncers have been known to be able to detect differences in weight, thickness, color and texture, in ID cards and licenses and also use a black light to check for holograms.
